Orlan you Amaze me

I could hardly look at the video in class... yet I think you have some nerve. Wow to have doctors  poking inside your body and for you to still clam and relax is  super cool to me. Hahahah you're reading a  book while being filmed in surgery. I bet no one was trying to listen. They were just looking and asking them selves why or how does she not feel any pain. Even if its a small amount due to the anesthesia in her body. This kind of performance is kinda made me sick and yet I was completely interested because what she does on her body is what I do to my canvas. I like to compare surgery before and after effects while Orlan lives it. Orlan and Stelarc could totally get along because they can handle the torture in their bodies.

Thoughts on class xerox projects

I found the xerox pretty fun and yet hard to do so I was very excited to see how each person would make their own piece. A lot of you guys were very creative and it seemed like you had a lot of fun in the process. I tried  leaving  comments on some ppl's blog but they had not posted pictures yet so Ill just comment them on my blog. Greg I like the pyramid and how each on had a face that seem to be moving  especially while they were hanging. Cheryl wow paper mache was so cool. A whole body would look so cool  wearing paper clothes. I can totally see a whole series with the paper mache idea. Lea The apple earphones looked so cool and how the wire wrapped around the project. Mike I was sad to hear you died and then happy you came back to class when u came in afterwards hahaha. I had fun making the copies with you and my little sister. She still talks about it and she cant wait to go to college and do those kinds of projects... Ahhh if all projects could be like that... fun. Jessica I love your purse idea and how you filled if up with items you would carry in a purse. Cara I liked the concept of you covering your body after you just exposed it on the Xerox machine. Kasey I loved the colors and how you put it together. the legs totally looked like little veggies and the shoes came out so good. Elizabeth I like the final pictures you posted on your blog rather then the sheets of paper you took to class. Although I liked Stanti's Idea of it being a long roll of paper.

"Paper Toy"

At first I was not sure about this project. Worried about how I was going to look on top of a Xerox machine. I did not even know we had on in the library where no one would see you. So I was glad to find Matt up in the computer lab.   I had so much fun scanning his face and even my little sister who was with me at the time. Better to work in teams then look like a fool by your self huh.... hahaha. So Santiago noticed I did not used A Xerox for my feet but I thought I'd get in trouble and If I broke it...I cant pay the school for damages. So I used my scanner. It was a lot easier and fast. My dad did look at me weird when he saw me... and then laughed when he saw my paper me toy... I thought it was pretty funny as well. The pieces kinda just came together. First I was lost and then it was like I knew where each piece has going and I love the ears at the waist.

Andy warhol...

Wow.... Andy. You are amazing. I totally remember making a flash video on you and banner last year in Santi's class. I had so much fun and so much frustrating making it. Hahahah All those hours of work and no sleep while Andy just puts a camera up and leaves the room... Total opposites huh. Yet, some of my painting look like him work and yet defiantly take more more time in produce one piece then he does making 20 or more. I use brushes he uses silk screens... different techniques same finish. I am currently working with silk screens so it nice to finally learn Andy's painting process and what he might have been thinking while making all those prints. I totally agree with Andy when he says why paint something on a screen when its faster to tape it.... but I prefer the painting process. I enjoy paint. I would not have fun just letting a camera roll... The process is much more exciting. As for his interviews totally hilarious... but hey he got away with it. I would do the same thing. I feel like why should I explain my work...if you like it you like it...There is nothing to really get about my work. the viewer should get what they want from the piece...if its insight full, hate, or beauty then good... I'll let the viewer choose. I  don't know if Andy felt like that but thats how I feel... I just like Andy's silent approach.

Un Chien Andalou

HAHA ... if someone could tell me what that was all about please take the time to tell me because I was so lost. At first I thought it was a story but then again I do not know. The man threatens the woman and then he has ants coming out of his hand... I thought of the hole on God's hand but Im not sure if there is any reference to that. Like Santiago says....omg totally BIzarre. Dali's fading in and out was really like I can tell you that though. I did think it was a film about love and the fear of death. Probably the fear of losing someone they love. Just because the whole story was about that lady and young man.

Grid Art project

I made the stage that would have been in a 3d animation screen. Since the screen is full of grids I want to make the flat screen 3d and part sculpture. In the center of the open stage box is a finger. A figure that a 3d animator could be making on a maya program at home or school.

Video games, Girls, and more Video games

Video Games for a while seemed to be the world to me  back when I was 8yrs old playing on my Nintendo 64. Donkey Kong 1, 2, and 3 were my only games for the play system but thats all I needed. I was addicated to playing much as we need water to live. However, I started growing old of them because its face it the interest in 3 games does not last a life time. But then I couldn't buy anymore games because they were all pretty much the same fights, racing, and sports. Nothing much to keep a girly girly interested. Don't get me wrong there were those girls who would be playing games until late hours of the night. It was just I did not see many options for me and companies kept making new systems with new hand set and all these crazy code for certain actions that I could not keep up. Since them the only other games I've played are kingdom of hearts and it was only so I could see the story line and the disney princesses. Video games are getting better now. I see more games that girls can be included in and the Wii was the best system ever made. I love playing with my son and even though it could be a rain day and we can't physically go outside. We are playing baseball and Jaden just made a home run. We also could be playing video games, be in a rock band and play instruments all at the same time. They even have interactive store time. Forget trying to get girls to play video games, they have moms and even grandma's playing basket ball.

One step for video games 10 steps back for Disney's so called "classic"

Man...for the longest time I have loved all the Disney's classics. My first VHS was of Aladdin and I'd watch it over and over again. I couldn't buy many of the other VHS because they were back in the vault but after they came back out I was the first in line. I even went to buy them right away after they were made dvds and now of course blue ray. But now I ask myself was it work it. If you watch one you watch them all right. My eyes were shocked when I saw Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty doing the same dance just on a different scene. One couple on a dance floor and another up in the clouds. Really... Disney where is the originality or was paying for a little over time too much. I know you had to draw much of it in the past since we were still working on enhancing the computer but there are just too many resemblances in all of the classics. I use to love Baloo's dance in the Jungle Book and its the same one in RobinHood. I feel so pissed off at Disney right now but they are smart, I'll give them that. I never noticed how they reused slides and coped pretty much everything, as I bet many others did not notice. I use to know of the sexual things hidden in each movie like: On the cover of the old Little Mermaid the castle is a dick. Aladdin says "take your clothes off" when he's on the balcony trying to talk to Jasmin. Simba spells sex when he falls to the ground after singing Hakuna Matata all day and eating warms. However, I was always told that the animators did those errors because they were pissed and thats how they got back at Disney but who knows. Well as pissed off as I am at Disney I hope that the word "Classic" does not disappear and they can now make some true classics for the younger generation like my son.

WOW! Welles' War of the Worlds Rocks.

I was working on some ideas for my next paintings when I decided to explore www.otr.com and tune to Welles' War of the worlds.  Man the broadcast was so realistic that if I had been listening to it back in 1938 I'd be running in the streets as well. I enjoy having movies in the background while I work on my painting so this would work great. For some reason I do not listen to music while I paint. I guess it's because I like to listen to the emotion of the movie and make the pictures in my mind. Welles's science fiction story was just a little to real for me. I think I almost looked out the window to see if we were going to be invaded. But don't worry then I remembered it was all fake and continued working on my drawings.

A few changes

Canvas Experiments

So I decided that I will write down my results for my canvas experiments.

So it is definitely better to burn a canvas with a wood backing, the canvas alone burn through to easily and you lose you canvas. If you there is no wood backing(or any other material) you want to layer the surface with anything you can. Add more layers of thick gesso and pieces of canvas then more gesso. The canvas does get heaver but it will not burn through so quickly. You can also add sand and rocks mixed with gesso. it gives it a nice texture. If you but tar on the canvas and then burn the area  it will make a rock look... now if you put latex paint on top of the tar it will bubble up some... with your finger remove the black dust and you will see the texture. You can use a soft brush to brush it off but it will get rid of some of its texture and it will look washed out a bit. If you but rocks and burn the canvas will burn down and the rocks will become more visible to the eye. If you add oil paint and burn it...the oil areas will burn a lil different so you will be able to see where the oil was painted on compared to the rest of the canvas. Okay todays report is finished . Bye bye for now.

FlipBook

Dylan V-The helicopter was nice... so much action at the start but then it kinda dead down.

Maria- I kinda wish I had finished the comic I was making first... It was the same images but looked more like a comic which I liked. It would also be more then 1000 pages.

Gina Moccio- Very nice I like the fact that the drawing goes all over the place and then the pic. with the big nose coming back together.

Cheryl Jibbins
It moved well through the book. I like the color... Wish a little more was going on though the store.

Brian mehlmer- Aw it was like a little love store. I want to see more.

Greg Cocchiaro.  I like the fact that you start off as a black and white picture and transform it to a color picture.... it becomes more intense  when the cigarette kills him because of the color.

Mike Seitzler---I love the pictures, the store line and even the fact that is in black in white.

Jessica Uremovic- I like the story, it reminds me of a short cartoon. The little boy reminds me of the boy from fairy-god parents. The colors were very nice makes it look more animated then the other flip books.

Kasey Colucci- The figure is very simple but I like it. It worked.

Lea Rickert-I like the boat...I kinda would have like to seem more of action happening with it.

Andrea-It was good how the story starts with an up close of music notes and then you see how its what a person hears. Totally liked it.

Cara Schleper- I like the colors and think its funny how the stove falls on his head and he drowns hahaha. I also like the colors at the beginning...it reminds me of a color palette.

Ellery McCarolle- It was cute. I like the fact that it tells how trees can be destroyed by nature.

clockwork orange vs singing in the rain

Well first of all Clockwork Orange is pretty disturbing and yet interesting. Im not really sure why the main characters Alex sing such a beautiful song as "Singing in the Rain", while he rapes a woman and beats her husband but hey maybe it was hes way of dealing with the Vietnam War. Crazy that the only American pop song he know is a musical and then he just hums classical music. In a lot of ways the movies seems to be about what goes around comes around. The war showed pretty much what was going out in the war in more of a plot line. The viewer was not forced to see what was happening to thier sons but they were tortured by seeing violence in the every day life. It was like reality tv...

Pier Toffoletti

OMg I LOVE HIM......Pier's use of powdered marble, clay and sand make his painting seem instinctively painted but they are so well thought out... I can only hope to have that skill one day and I also hope to learn to draw so effortlessly!!!!

Damn paper started a movie night.

Okay it is 5:30 am and I just finish writing my paper. I watched the movie and start writing while watch about another five movies...So I don't know if I should blame the movies or my wondering mind... but I swear my paper goes from a musical to some hip hop musical in the streets to an opera house in outer space  made by aliens. I guess my mind just wondered from setting to setting... Well whatever I wrote the damn paper and released my imagination in the process. Will post it up later today or Thursday morning. Well good night.

Aida

Well I finally was able to find an opera I could use. It only took me two libraries, one trip to my house for a book I never returned, 9$ in late fees, a short stop at taco bell, finally a trip back on campus just to fall asleep on the first act. Aida you better be worth it. I must say that the start is very long and very boring. However, now on my second attempt to watch this lovely opera I find it to be pleasant. I still would have loved to done a paper on The Phantom of the Opera house but it was a damn musical.  Well 3 page paper on Aida soon to come.

Art and Technology...

Well I did feel a little overwhelmed on the first day of class... but just because there is so much to learn and so little time. I'm so excited about the class and I hope to expand my creativity. I would really like to unify both my work from this class and my digital art special problems. I have to say that I just finish watching Farinelli and I absolutely love it. I'm not sure what to except from this class but I hope to gain knowledge and awaken my creativity spirt.
